Ryan Grepper of Portland set out to re-invent the cooler and boy has he gained some initial success – with a $50,000 target he has already breached $3.5 million on his Kickstarter campaign with 48 days to go! So what is it about the ‘Coolest Cooler‘ that could possibly help it break Pebble Smartwatch’s Kickstarter record of $10.3 million.
Grepper himself exaplains, “Regular coolers are boring, break easily and are a hassle to haul around just to carry the ice. The COOLEST cooler is 60 quarts of AWESOME packed with so much fun you’ll look for excuses to get outside more often.” First things first, a cooler needs to keep your food and beverages cool: Check. But what else can it do?
The sturdy and aesthetically pleasing design has a decent amount of storage for your BBQ food, beers and ice and comes in a range of 6 different colours. An 18V built-in ice crusher is the perfect campanion to some crushed ice beach side cocktails and if that wasn’t enough to get the party started, there are built-in waterproof bluetooth speakers. No wonder Grepper describes it as “a portable party disguised as a cooler, bringing blended drinks, music and fun to any outdoor occasion.”
Of course with all that power built in it’s only logical to have a USB charger so your camera, phone and other USB powered devices don’t go without power as you’d be pressed to find a socket on the beach or in the woods. LED light lights up the contents, turning on at the switch of a button meaning the party can go on all night.
A gear tie down means you can pack the rest of your beach or camping gear on top and pull it along with the trolley system. The wide easy rolling tyres have been given a sturdy design to conquer the sandiest of beaches and dirtiest of tracks. There is clever storage for plates and cutlery in the lid with the storage separator doubling up as a chopping board and of course, what cooler would not be complete without a bottle opener.
It’s Grepper’s second attempt at getting his cooler idea into the market with the last campaign falling short but he contacted previous backers which helped his revamped version get an early kickstart. Head on over to the campaign to check out more about the cooler, offer your support and have a chance to get your hands on one yourself for the cheapest they will ever be. Grepper hopes shipping will begin sometime at the beginning of next year.
